At Te Ngae Physiotherapy and Pilates, we offer specialised physiotherapy services designed to support individuals during and after cancer treatment. Our cancer rehabilitation programs focus on improving strength, mobility, and overall quality of life, helping you regain independence and confidence as you recover.

Whether you’re managing the side effects of treatment or rebuilding your fitness post-recovery, our team is here to provide tailored care to meet your unique needs and help you on your journey to recovery. We offer the PINC and STEEL programs, Next Steps classes and Paddle On classes.

PINC and STEEL Program

The PINC (women) and STEEL (men) programs are one on one treatments with oncology physiotherapist, Melanie Loveless. The initial assessment is an hour, with follow ups lasting 30 minutes during which we work towards your individual wellness goals. As treatment is individualised, you can attend at any point in your cancer journey.

The program aims to:

  • Regain muscular strength and endurance
  • Enhance energy levels during and after cancer treatments
  • Re-strengthen muscles of the trunk and improve posture
  • Ease pain and muscular tension
  • Assist in weight control and help improve bone density
  • Improve sleep and reduce fatigue
  • Enhance mood and reduce anxiety
  • Refocus energy from illness to wellness

It is well supported in research the benefits of exercise during and after cancer treatments and having a physiotherapist guiding you through this is a safe way incorporate this into your lifestyle. Personalised treatment sessions include: pilates, physiotherapy, massage, education, strengthening and stretching home exercise programs.

Visit the PINC Program and STEEL Program websites.

NEXT STEPS Program

Following on from the PINC and STEEL individualised programs, clients can now continue their exercise and rehabilitation in a class setting with up to 10 others. Next Steps combines step aerobics, pilates, yoga and relaxation to give a full mind-body class.

The class is for 1hr, once a week, for 10 weeks and is fully funded by the PINC and STEEL Cancer Rehabilitation Trust. Clients must have completed their cancer treatments and have clearance from a clinician within their team prior to starting Next Steps.

Classes are run on Thursday evenings from 5-6pm when numbers allow. Please register your interest on the pincandsteel website or by calling the clinic.

PADDLE ON Program

Paddle On is a stand up paddle (SUP) rehabilitation program for men and women recovering from all types of cancer. Delivered in 8 sessions over 5 weeks the program is designed to introduce the components of stand up paddling in a safe, fun small group environment. No experience or equipment is needed!

Melanie Loveless has been offering this hugely rewarding program each summer since 2016. Please register your interest via the clinic at any point during the year to ensure your place. Before going out on the water we will book a 30 min appointment with Melanie to make sure your strength, balance and overall health is sufficient to safely take part. This program is heavily subsidised by the PINC and STEEL Cancer Rehab Trust but do ask for a koha of $40 to help cover costs.

Take your recovery from cancer to the next level by making the most out of this exciting opportunity.
